Callicarpa bodinieri ‘Profusion‘– Beautyberry 'Profusion'

General:
The beautyberry 'Profusion' is a sparsely growing shrub from China. The plant reaches heights of two to three meters. From July to August the shrub blooms on the biennial wood and numerous, purple, shiny, berry-like fruits form. These ripen in September / October and stay on until winter. The color is very atypical and looks a bit artificial, but it also makes it all the more interesting.

Care as a bonsai:
The unique thing about this plant are the purple fruits, which naturally come into their own on a bonsai. Incidentally, if there is another beautyberry in the garden, the fruit formation is stronger. Otherwise, the plant also has a very beautiful, yellow-orange autumn color and the flower is also conspicuous and often visited by insects. Even as a bonsai, the beautyberry grows somewhat sparsely and requires appropriate pruning and possibly the wire of individual branches. But you can also plant individual individuals together as a group and thus get a very pleasing shape with good branching. It is repotted in the spring before the leaves emerge. The roots of the beautyberry should be protected from too much frost!
