Hedera colchica 'Fall Favourite' - Caucasian Shrub Ivy
General:
Unlike the wild form, Caucasian Shrub Ivy 'Fall Favourite' is not a climber, but a small, broadly upright shrub. It grows up to 2 feet tall and nearly twice as wide. The evergreen leaves are oval, leathery and glossy. From July to September, the shrub ivy forms whitish umbels. The flowers later develop into black, spherical fruits.
Care as a Bonsai:
Like all ivy species, shrub ivy is undemanding, hardy and pruning tolerant. It is particularly suitable as a bonsai because of its shrubby growth and the associated formation of a trunk. Through regular pruning, the plant branches quite well and quickly forms a dense crown. The glossy leaves, white-green flowers and black fruits in autumn ensure that the plant is very beautiful to look at any time. The shrub ivy prefers to stand as bright as possible, but otherwise tolerates shady locations. For healthy development, the plant should be fertilized regularly and watered as needed. In winter, the ivy must not dry out and is best placed protected from the wind.
