Jasminum nudiflorum - Winter Jasmine

General:
The winter jasmine is common in North China and East Asia. As a straddle climber, it uses other trees or walls to grow upwards. Otherwise it grows ground covering. The shoots are angular, green when young and become smooth and light with age. The flowers are primrose yellow and forsythia-like.

Care as a bonsai:
With a winter jasmine, the bonsai year sometimes starts in January. At mild temperatures, the first spring blossoms appear. Together with the light trunk and the green branches, it creates a very beautiful sight. The plant then develops long shoots in spring that have to be severely pruned. It is also possible to wire the branches. In summer the winter jasmine can be in full sun. A protected location is recommended in winter.
