Hydrangea petiolaris - Climbing Hydrangea

General:
The climbing hydrangea is found in the wild in the forests of Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. With its adhesive roots, it uses the possibilities of the environment to grow in height or crawls on the ground. Its leaves are summer green, somewhat leathery and greasy and yellow in autumn. The climbing hydrangea forms beautiful white panicles with a sweet smell in June / July. The dry inflorescences stick to the plant for a long time.

Care as a bonsai:
The climbing hydrangea has slightly larger leaves, but cultivating it as a bonsai is very rewarding. The reddish bark, which is loosening in stripes, together with the fresh green of the leaves is particularly attractive. The plant tolerates pruning and should also be shortened regularly. The shoots later become very hard and at the same time brittle. Correction by wire is therefore only possible with great difficulty. Climbing hydrangeas can be sunny to shady and prefer fresh substrates without waterlogging and rainwater. Due to the many fine roots, the plants have to be repotted regularly.
