Ceramics and Training Pots by Tokoname
The Japanese city of Tokoname has a long tradition of producing high quality ceramics. Both teapots and bonsai pots have been made here for over 900 years. Well known artists have settled in the region and benefit from a perfect infrastructure and the special properties of the natural clay deposits in the region. Bonsai pots from Tokoname are made with proven processes, the greatest care, craftsmanship and artistic talent. The result are pots of consistent, high quality and beauty. The shapes and contours are very clean, and the material is extremely stable and frost resistant.
Tokoname has thus become a synonym for bonsai pots of the highest quality among bonsai lovers.
For bonsai and prebonsai, special flat training pots are made in Tokoname, the upper edge of which is glazed. The clay is well permeable to air, so that the oxygen supply to the roots is significantly higher than with glazed pots. This is an advantage if the tree is still in development. In addition to a large drainage hole, there are also at least two small holes in the bottom of the pot so that the tree can also be wired into this pot.
