Viburnum x bodnantense ‘Dawn‘ - Pink Dawn Viburnum  ‘Dawn‘

General:
The pink dawn Viburnum was created as a cross between the Chinese Viburnum farreri and the large-flowered Viburnum grandiflorum native to the Himalayas. The plant grows shrubby and sparsely branched up to 3 meters high. The leaves are narrowly elliptical, have deep-set leaf veins and turn red to red-violet in autumn. The special thing about the Viburnum is of course the blossom. Even in winter, the many pink-white flowers that spread an intense and pleasant scent often appear.

Care as a bonsai:
With a Viburnum in the bonsai collection, you don't have to wait long for the spring bloom. This species blooms in the middle of winter and gives off its scent in winter quarters. Although the species grows a bit sparse, you can develop a beautiful shape by pruning and wireing young shoots. Even in summer, the leaves are a nice addition to the other plants thanks to their slightly coarser texture and darker color. The branches and trunk quickly develop a rough, cracked bark, giving the impression of age. The Viburnum is best placed in a light color and is adequately watered and fertilized. The plant is hardy, but the root ball should not dry out even in winter.

Special features of the variety:
The ‘Dawn‘ variety develops many small, whitish pink flowers from November to April.
