Eranthis hyemalis – winter aconite

General:
The winter aconite has its original occurrence in Northern Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey. In Central Europe it is a cultural relict, since it was planted in the gardens of castles, monasteries and churches and eventually went wild from there. As a spring geophyte, it uses the light forest soil at the beginning of the year to bloom, grow and then from the summer to survive underground. The magnificent yellow flowers appear from February to March, and especially when they pierce the snow cover they create a particularly beautiful spring display.

Uses:
Due to its early bloom and delicate shape, the winterling is very well as an accent plant (Shitakusa) to display bonsai in the spring. But also as a solitary plant (Kusamono) it is very decorative and gives pleasure for a long time due to its perenniality.
