Raffia is a necessary tool when the branches of bonsai need to be bent severely. The fibrous strands effectively hold the wood together and, in combination with the wire, allow extreme deformation. The soft material of the bundle is sufficiently long and is easy to work with effectively, but is best suited for thinner branches in design work compared to the large 1000g braids. The raffia should be sufficiently watered before tying.
