Serissa foetida - Tree Of A Thousand Stars
General:
The tree of thousand stars grows naturally as a small shrub in Japan. The evergreen leaves are small and elongated and countless, delicate, white flowers develop in summer. Hence the name june snow or the tree of a thousand stars.
Care as a bonsai:
Extraordinary bonsai can be formed from the tree of thousand stars. The leaves are small, dainty, and very fine branching is created by pruning them regularly. The evergreen foliage also contrasts nicely with the light, smooth bark. The countless white flowers that emerge from the leaf axils, especially in June, are of course particularly decorative. In terms of care, the tree of thousand stars is a little more demanding than other species. It needs a bright place and the substrate should only be kept moderately moist. When it is dry, the plant reacts quickly by falling leaves and waterlogging leads to root rot. The tree of thousand stars also loves high humidity and should therefore not be near radiators. In winter, the plant would benefit from a plant light in warm temperatures indoors. Otherwise you can overwinter it correspondingly cooler.
