Ligustrum vulgare - Wild Privet

General:
The privet is native to Germany and often grows in sparse forests, hedges or bushes. It has a loose habit with spreading branches and is up to 5 meters high. The leaves are evergreen, lanceolate and dark green. In autumn it usually only loses a few leaves and the rest of them turn purple at the edge. The flowers of the privet are white panicles and appear in June / July. From this pea-sized, shiny black fruits develop, which still adorn the plant in winter.

Care as a bonsai:
Privet are very robust, easy to cut and easy to care for. As a shrub, however, the shape does not develop by itself. Corresponding shoots must be selected and shaped at the beginning via wire and later via the cut. In summer the privet likes to stand in the sun and should be sufficiently watered and fertilized. Hard tap water for watering is not a problem and in winter a sheltered place is sufficient.
