Potentilla fruticosa ‘Kobold‘ - Shrubby Cinquefoil 'Kobold'
General:
The genus Potentilla comprises around 300 species, most of which are not lignified and shrubby. The shrubby cinquefoil (Potentilla fruticosa) grows woody and is widespread throughout the northern hemisphere. The plant grows as a small, densely branched shrub and is up to one and a half meters tall. The small leaves are deciduous and 3 - 7-fold. The shrubby cinquefoil develops many yellow flowers from the beginning of June to October.
Care as a bonsai:
The shrubby cinquefoil has optimal properties for creating very special bonsai. The leaves are small and delicate and turn yellow-orange in autumn. The plant is very pruning and forms many, sometimes very fine branches. The bark is reddish brown and comes off in thin strips, similar to that of a juniper. Last but not least, the shrubby cinquefoil blooms tirelessly and several times a year. Overall, the plant is also very robust and forgives one or the other care mistakes. The shrubby cinquefoil should be sunny for optimal flowering. On very hot days, however, you have to pay attention to sufficient watering or place the plant somewhat protected. Root growth is strong and the plants need to be repotted regularly.
Special features of the variety:
The ‘Kobold‘ variety has yellow flowers and, compared to the other varieties, the smaller and finer leaves.
