Acer saccharinum - Silver Maple

General:
The silver maple is common in the lowlands, swamps and alluvial forests of North America. Here it grows together with willows, alders and birches as a tree with a height of up to 20 meters. The leaves are deeply 5-lobed, light green and hairy on the underside with silvery white hairs. The autumn color is bright yellow, but can also turn reddish to orange.

Care as a bonsai:
The filigree leaf makes the silver maple very suitable as a bonsai. In addition to the autumn color, the green-reddish shoots in spring are also very beautiful. The species is fast-growing and, like the Norway maple, should be brought into shape at an early stage. The silver maple does not tolerate calcareous soils and should therefore be poured with rainwater.
