Japanese root saw - blade with coarse saw teeth

Not everyday but still regularly there is another important work on the bonsai: repotting. Here you are often faced with the problem of getting an old and strongly rooted plant out of the bowl. Especially with oval bowls and trees that have not been repotted for several years, the root ball has often become literally "wedged" in the ceramic. Here it is no longer possible to lever the bonsai out of the bowl and sometimes the only option is to sacrifice the bowl.

To avoid this and not to struggle in frustration with bread knives or old folding saws, we recommend the root saws from Japan. These special tools greatly facilitate the work of repotting. The blade is curved in a crescent shape and has sharp saw teeth. The wooden handle fits comfortably in the hand and so even compacted root balls can be released from the shell. With sawing movements, one guides the blade along the edge of the shell, trying to push down to the bottom of the shell. Working around the tree in this manner, you can eventually remove the tree from the shell effortlessly. Depending on the strength of the roots and compaction, choose either the regular or the extra strong root saw.

Once you have tried this tool, you will surely quickly include it in the circle of your favorite indispensable tools.

The production of bonsai tools has a long tradition in Japan and is still a real craftsmanship that must be learned over the years. Through the use of special and proven materials, as well as a lot of experience and the high standards in manufacturing, tools of excellent quality are created. So if you don't want to make any compromises when choosing your bonsai tool, you are well equipped with the Japanese tool.
