Euonymus alatus - Winged Spindle

General:
The winged spindle is native to Japan, what was then Manchuria and central China. The plant grows here as a 3 meter high, sparse but densely branched shrub in light forests and bushes. The angular shoots form typical cork strips. The leaves are summer green with an intense, bright carmine-red to lilac-red autumn color. The flowers are inconspicuous, but the fruits are red-orange and also very ornamental in autumn. The peacock is tolerant of the demands of the location, but prefers moist and nutrient-rich substrates.

Care as a bonsai:
Thanks to the impressive cork strips and the extreme autumn color, the winged spindle is also very popular as a bonsai. In addition, it also forms delicate fruits and develops very fine branching through consistent pruning. The roots are also very fine and densely branched. Therefore, the plant must be watered conscientiously in summer and repotted regularly. The frost resistance is very good, but it should not be exposed to late frosts.
