Ulmus glabra - Wych Elm

General:
The wych elm is common in northern and central Europe. It grows here in cool, damp forests from the lowlands to the mountains. It reaches a height of approx. 30 meters and develops a broad, spreading crown. The dark green leaves are mostly broad oval and somewhat asymmetrical. They turn yellow in autumn.

Care as a bonsai:
As a bonsai, the wych elm is very uncomplicated. It is vigorous, tolerates pruning and makes no special demands on the location. The plant develops very fine branching with small leaves. A consistent cut is actually sufficient, but the branches can also be wired without any problems. A beautiful barky bark develops with age. A sheltered place is sufficient in winter.
