Vaccinium corymbosum 'Goldtraube' - Northern highbush blueberry 'Goldtraube'

General:
The northern highbush blueberry grows naturally in swamps, bogs and other humid locations in eastern North America. The densely branched shrub grows slowly and has deciduous leaves that turn yellow to orange-red in autumn. Cup-shaped and white to pink flowers appear in May. From this the typical edible blueberry fruits develop.

Care as a bonsai:
Blueberries are easy to cut and develop fine branches. The leaves and young shoots have a beautiful green color and form a great contrast to the later reddish and furrowed bark. Blueberries are also easy to wire because the branches are very flexible. The soil must be kept evenly moist, but no hard water should be used. The plants are also sensitive to too much nitrogen. This must be taken into account when fertilizing.

Special features of the variety:
The 'Goldtraube' variety is vigorous, healthy and robust against the weather. The fruiting is also stronger than that of the species.
