Trachelospermum jasminoides - Chinese star jasmine

General:
Chinese Star Jasmine is an evergreen climbing plant native to China, Japan and other countries in southern Asia. The woody plant can reach a length of up to 8 meters there and forms countless white pleasantly scented flowers in summer. The flowers are the reason why the star jasmine is also a popular ornamental plant in the Mediterranean region and in Germany is sometimes kept as a tub plant.

Care as a bonsai:
A star jasmine can be made into a bonsai very well. The plant is woody but the shoots are flexible and very easy to shape with wire. The evergreen glossy leaves are quite dense and by regular pruning in spring or late summer, a compact branching can be achieved. The special thing about the star jasmine is, of course, its splendor of flowers in summer and the associated vanilla-like fragrance emitted by the flowers. The plant likes to stand in the sun but also tolerates partial shade. Fertilize regularly and water as needed when the soil has dried. Star jasmine is sensitive to frost and in winter, like other Mediterranean plants, is wintered in a cold house.
