Eleagnus angustifolia - Silver Berry

General:
The Silver Berry originally comes from Central Asia and can now also be found in the Mediterranean region. The plant grows here as a densely branched shrub or tree with narrow, silvery, shiny leaves. In summer yellow flowers form from which small, edible fruits later develop.

Care as a bonsai:
The Silver Berry is evergreen, robust and very easy on pruning. The leaves, flowers and fruits are also very decorative. It needs a bright location and should be watered and fertilized regularly. However, it does not tolerate waterlogging. The pruning is done after the shoots have been allowed to grow freely, but before they begin to harden. A new piece of shoot with a few leaves is left standing. In winter, the Silver Berry is best kept cool, but still bright and is only watered when necessary.
