General: The Central American wild pigeons gave their name to its german name "pigeon berry". These birds like to eat the orange fruits and thereby spread the plant. The Golden Dewdrop is native to the tropical and subtropical areas of America and is wild in many other countries. It grows as a shrub or small tree with light green leaves. The flowers are light blue to purple and later yellow-orange berries develop.
Care as a bonsai: The Golden Dewdrop loves a bright location in summer and can definitely stand outdoors. But then it is also important to ensure that there is sufficient irrigation. Hot, dry midday sun should be avoided. In winter, a light location at a minimum of 5 ° C and a maximum of 20 ° C is also recommended. When the winter is dark and cool, the Golden Dewdrop loses its leaves and does not sprout again until spring. During a warm winter (over 15 ° C) it hardly loses any leaves. The water requirement is of course different depending on the type of wintering. During the main growing season, the fresh shoots can be cut back to 2 to 3 new leaves. The young shoots can also be wired. Later, however, the wood becomes very hard and inflexible.
