Prunus mume ‘Beni-chi-dori‘ - Japanese Apricot 'Beni-chi-dori'

General:
The Japanese apricot or plum originally comes from China and was naturalized in Japan and Korea. Many cultivated forms then emerged from the wild form, both because of the fruits and because of the flowers. At home the plant grows as a large shrub and has a strong symbolic meaning for the people there. It stands for vitality and is a symbol for spring.

Care as a bonsai:
The apricot is very popular as a bonsai in Japan. Depending on the variety, the flowers are white, pink or dark red. The flower buds for the next year are formed on the last annual shoot. Therefore, you should let it stand as far as possible until it blooms. After flowering, the shoots can then be shortened. A lot of sun and good fertilization in the previous year are necessary for good flower formation. In winter, apricots should be protected and preferably protected from frost.

Special features of the variety:
The ‘Beni-chi-dori‘ variety has dark pink flowers that smell pleasant.
