Ligustrum species - Privet

General:
Privet are distributed worldwide, with most of the species occurring in Asia. Some privet species are often used as ornamental trees, as hedge or topiary due to their cut tolerance, the small evergreen leaves and the flowers.

Care as a bonsai:
Privet are very robust, easy to cut and easy to care for. As a shrub, however, the shape does not develop by itself. Corresponding shoots must be selected and shaped at the beginning via wire and later via the cut. With age, however, the privet then forms fine branches and the small leaves can be used to create very differentiated cushions of foliage. In summer the privet likes to stand in the sun and should be sufficiently watered and fertilized. Hard tap water for watering is not a problem and in winter a sheltered place is sufficient.
