Buxus sinica var. Sinica - Chinese Box

General:
The chinese Box grows in its homeland as a small, evergreen tree or shrub. The leaves are small, narrowly lanceolate, dark green and light green when they shoot. The light-colored bark, which is very furrowed even in young specimens, is very decorative. The plant also makes pretty yellow inflorescences in summer.

Care as a bonsai:
The chinese box is very popular as a bonsai and is often found in the trade under the name "Buxus harlandii". The care of the box tree is uncomplicated and thus also enables beginners to get started with the bonsai hobby. The chinese box needs a bright, sunny location in summer and should then be watered and fertilized regularly. The plant can also be placed outside in warm temperatures. A pruning is done after the shoot has been allowed to grow for some time, but before it begins to harden. You leave some new leaves. Young branches can be wired well, but the wire shouldn't grow in and damage the cork strips. In winter the box is best kept cool, but bright. Below 12 degrees the plant then hibernates and accordingly has to be less watered and no longer fertilized.
