Ficus carica - Common Fig

General:
The common fig is widespread throughout the Mediterranean and is cultivated in many other countries for its edible fruits. The leaves are large, deeply lobed and turn yellow in autumn.

Care as a bonsai:
Despite the large leaves, pretty bonsai can be grown from figs. The plant can be placed outside or inside in summer. In winter it should be overwintered frost-free in any case. At temperatures around 20 ° C, it usually only sheds the old leaves. Maintenance is basically limited to regular pruning and extensive watering and fertilization during the growing season. In winter, leaf shedding means that less watering is required.
