Salix purpurea 'Nana'

Salix purpurea ‘Nana’ – Dwarf Purple Willow

General:
The fast-growing purple willow is native to western and southern Europe, where it grows as a broad, bushy shrub with a broom-like shape. It particularly likes to establish itself near riverbanks or in floodplain forests. It produces the elongated leaves typical of willows, which are slightly darker on the underside.

Care as a bonsai:
Willows are undemanding plants for bonsai cultivation. They tolerate pruning very well and are not fussy about growing conditions. However, a bright location, a good supply of water and nutrients, and standard winter protection are generally optimal for the plant’s development.

Features of the variety:
The dwarf purple willow usually does not grow taller than 60 cm, but does grow quite wide. In bonsai design, this lends itself well to a broom-shaped or weeping form.
