Ficus sikkimensis – Small-leaved Fig
General:
Its natural range extends across China, the Himalayan region and the whole of Malaysia; it is also found in the Sikkim region, which is where it gets its name. There, it grows as an evergreen shrub or small tree and reaches a height of up to 15 metres. The leaves are elongated and narrow and, from a distance, almost resemble needles.
Care as a bonsai:
The narrow-leaved fig tree is rather rare as a bonsai, but is considered a hardy plant that can be kept very well as an indoor bonsai in our climate. It thrives in a well-draining substrate and a bright spot without direct draughts. It can be shaped very well using wire or simple pruning.
