General:
The birch fig is native to India, Bangladesh, Burma, southern China, and from Malaysia to Australia. The species has also given rise to many cultivated forms, and as a houseplant it is now found worldwide. The birch fig is evergreen and grows naturally as a shrub or small tree.
Care as a bonsai:
Due to its narrow glossy leaves as well as its undemanding nature in terms of care, the "Benjamini" is not only a common houseplant, but also a popular bonsai. Care is basically limited to regular pruning and ample watering and fertilizing during the growing season. The plant can remain indoors all year round. However, in winter, special attention should be paid to a bright location.
Features of the variety:
The 'Starlight' variety is characterised by its irregularly white-edged leaves. Depending on the location and exposure to sunlight, they tend to be white or more green.
