Ficus microcarpa 'Shiny'

Ficus microcarpa 'Shiny' - Chinese Banyan 'Shiny'

General:
The Chinese Banyan is native to many countries in tropical Asia. It grows there as an evergreen tree with a height of up to 25 meters. Typical are the light brown aerial roots that grow down from the broad spreading crown. The leaves of the Chinese Banyan are very variable, and there are several cultivated forms.

Care as Bonsai:
In the bonsai trade, the Chinese Banyan is also often found under the outdated name "Ficus retusa". The plants are very undemanding and easily develop into very handsome miniature trees. The ficus can be kept indoors all year round, but the place should be as bright as possible. Care is limited to regular pruning and abundant watering and fertilizing during the growing season. In winter, correspondingly less watering and fertilizing is required. Waterlogging should be avoided at all times.

Special features of the variety:
Compared to the species, the cultivar 'Shiny' has small, rounded leaves that are slightly curved inward and strikingly shiny. The variety has a beautiful compact growth and decorative, pea-sized, red-purple fruits at the ends of the shoots.
