Myrciaria cauliflora - Jaboticaba
General:
The jaboticaba tree is native to Brazil and grows there as a medium-sized tree. The evergreen leaves are reddish when they shoot and then turn green. The special feature of this type of plant are the cherry-sized, dark purple, edible fruits that grow directly on the trunk. However, seedlings do not bloom until they are around 15 years old.
Care as a bonsai:
The jaboticaba is a very decorative bonsai due to its reddish buds and the colorful, peeling bark. Overall, he does not make any special demands on care. A bright location as well as adequate irrigation and fertilization are nevertheless prerequisites for healthy growth. In winter, the jaboticaba can withstand low temperatures of up to 5 ° C, but should still be as bright as possible. For wintering at higher temperatures in the apartment, additional lighting with special plant light would be recommended.
