Foundation
The Bonsaischule Enger is a family-run business, now in its fourth generation, specializing in the cultivation of woody plants. In the beginning, fruit trees and various ornamental shrubs were produced until 1982, when the company focused exclusively on the cultivation and culture of bonsai.
Early years:
From the beginning, the basis of the Bonsaischule Enger was formed by native young plants, which were raised to bonsai. Here Michaela and Hermann Pieper did real pioneer work, because bonsai culture has no tradition in Germany and Europe. Slowly the range expanded to include indoor bonsai, purchased solitaires as well as ceramics and tools.
Workshops
Already in the first years, regular beginner courses were offered in the Bonsaischule Enger to bring interested people closer to the hobby "Bonsai". The participants are taught the necessary theoretical knowledge as well as the practical skills to successfully maintain and develop bonsai themselves.
Apprenticeship
Already since 1984, the Bonsaischule Enger is a recognized training company for gardeners (nursery) and Heike Zylka was Germany's first bonsai apprentice and the first employee in the company.
Exhibitions
In cooperation with the spa administration in Bad Salzuflen, the Bonsaischule Enger organized a large exhibition every two years from 1985 to 1991 to promote bonsai in the region. Besides many other regional exhibitions, the Bonsaischule Enger can now be found regularly at the "Trophy" in Belgium.
Mail order:
In addition to the retail store in Enger, customers already had the possibility to order plants and accessories through a unique catalog in 1995. Since 2000 the Bonsaischule Enger is present on the internet and most of the articles are available through an online store.
Import
Since 2001 most import bonsai are personally selected on site and imported directly. Regular trips to Japan, Korea, Indonesia and Spain thus ensure an interesting and extensive range of high-quality bonsai.
Today
Today the Bonsaischule Enger employs 12 people on a total area of about 3ha. In addition to an extensive range of imported bonsai, there are over 200 different plant species in cultivation and in training as a bonsai. The assortment of ceramics, tools and other accessories has also been constantly expanded over the years and the articles are shipped throughout Europe via the online store.
